The Day has Come

Last Saturday, we made the big move. Thanks to all of our friends and family who helped us move once again. Before we brought all of our "stuff" in I went through the house and took some photos of it while it was empty. It was a beautiful sun shiny day. We are busy unpacking and settling in and are enjoying are new home and it's location (see the picture of the turkeys) immensely. We can't say enough nice things about Scott and Tracy Wellen, our contractors. They helped make this an enjoyable and wonderful experience. We look forward to entertaining our friends and family for many years to come.

Getting Closer to Move-in Day

Today the installation of the hard wood floors was completed. Some of the carpeting should go in this week and the remainder of the tile in the hallway and laundry room. We love the look of the hardwood floors. It is a beautiful finish and color.

When we got home today, we were surprised to find that on the north side of the house Scott had built a tiered retaining wall with some of the rocks. We were blown away by the work that he did and how great it looked. We are getting so anxious to get it completed and moved in.

A lot going on

This will be a quick post. Tile is mostly in, hardwood floors start tomorrow. They are hooking up the permanent power as I write this, so tonight we should be able to see if the light fixtures we have do the trick. The last two days most of the cabinetry was put in. They still have a little more to do as well as the crown molding at the tops. The stonework around the fireplace should be completed by the end of today or tomorrow. Countertops have been templated and should be installed in a couple of weeks. Trim has been delivered and should be going up soon. Here are a few more interior shots.

Lights, Camera, Action

The inside of the house is changing on a daily basis. All the rooms got two coats of paint and that was quite the endeavor. The peak in the living room seemed a lot higher up from the top of the ladder looking down than it did standing on the ground. The tile has been laid in Faith and Nolan's bathroom, the master bathroom and the kitchen. Tomorrow they will work on tile in the basement so that the floor is in on all the areas where cabinets are gettting installed.

Work has also begun on the stone fireplace. The mantles have been hung on both sides of the fireplace upstairs and the stone work is complete on the living room side. The posts for the staircase are partially installed. They turned out awesome. And lastly, the light fixtures are all in place.

Update on Interior

Work on the interior is fast and furious. The past couple of weeks have been spent on putting up the wall board, taping and mudding. This week texture is being sprayed on and painting began yesterday. Paint selection for a whole house can be a bit daunting!!! Putting stone on the upstairs fireplace is to begin this week and flooring will start next week with cabinets to follow the week after that. I will try to be better about posting as the changes to the house are going to be many over a short period of time.

Update on the Back Exterior

The deck is finished as well as the stairs to the lower level. Underneath the deck is the same stenciled concrete as the sidewalk in the front. The front and two sides are brick and stone and the back is siding. The pile of stones in the back will hopefully some day become a waterfall. There is a family of twelve turkeys who visit quite often.

Updates on the Front Exterior

The house is moving along quickly. We are hoping to be in by the end of October. The exterior of the house is almost complete. All that is left is the garage doors and the columns. They should be put on by the end of next week. The siding is on, patio and sidewalk poured, front door stained and brick and stone completed. Here are some current pictures of the exterior.
